Lighting

 Lighting

For today's blog I am going to talk about the lighting that I chose to take my pictures with for my magazine. Since I want my magazine to have  a nature style, I decided to take the pictures outside in a park, where I would have to deal with natural lighting.

For those of you who do not know what natural lighting is... this type of lighting uses the sun as a source of light, and since it varies a lot throughout the day, you can get different colors and tones in your pictures.

Here are some examples of natural light in different times of the day:

I personally prefer natural light over artificial light because its affordable, you do not need to purchase expensive artificial light sources. It offers you variety, depending on the weather or the time you are taking the pictures, you are going to get a different outcome and finally, natural light can be used both in outdoors and indoors.

Another reason I chose to take the pictures for my magazine outside, in a park, is because the conventional types of pictures you see in a fitness magazines are pictures that were taken outdoors, like in a beach, park, etc.

Color Research

 Color Research

Since humans are very visual creatures, I decided that I want my magazine to look the best so it can catch the reader's eye.

I did a color research just so I can understand what colors will make my magazine stand out.

BLUE:

At first glance, blue may seem too detached and relaxed for a fitness Magazine. But, research has shown that blue has a unique ability to increase focus and concentration. Also, lighter blues are often associated with services in the medical industry, like doctors, and can increase the trustworthiness of your website and brand.

PINK:

Most pinks have an inherent ability to calm the mind and relax the muscles. Including pink in my magazine will turn it from something calming to something super competitive.

GREY:

Anything on the grayscale screams 'focus'. gray tones are a great way to emphasize professionalism and seriousness.

GREEN:

Studies show that green shades are refreshing and boost energy levels in people. Not only are greens relaxing and meditative but they also offer a healing effect, reducing tiredness during and post-workout by reminding the readers of relaxing natural environments.

Table of Content's Production Process

 Table of Content's Production Process

In today's blog I am going to show you the process of how I made my table of contents.

First, I did a research on how a fitness magazine's table of contents should look like, and collected a few examples:

These examples helped me build my first rough draft on paper:

For my third step, I did another draft on google slides and I changed the structure.
And finally, a more elaborated draft.

I still have to fix some things and do more research about the content, but so far I am loving how my magazine is turning out.

Fitness Magazine Cover

 Fitness Magazine Cover

For today's blog post I have made different examples of what I want my magazine cover to look like. After making some research on what a fitness magazine usually looks like, I have come with four different ideas for it.

Here are the drafts I have made with Canva:

  • The Masthead font is Railway Heavy, I used this for most of my examples because I love how its boldness looks. For this draft I used a more serious palette: gray and blue. All the subtitle's font is Exo, which I think makes the cover look more organized.

  • For this draft, I kept the same fonts. The only difference is that the color palette is different: red, black and white. This one is my personal favorite, I just really like the combination of the colors and the vibe they give to the magazine.

  • This draft also has the same fonts for the masthead and the subtitles. The color palette is: violet, aquamarine and blue.

  • This draft is my second favorite of all of them. I changed the masthead's font for League Spartan and kept the same font for the subtitles. This color palette is more fun and attractive to the eye: yellow and pink.

Test Shots

 Photoshoot!

For today's blog post I am going to be showing you some pictures I took during the photoshoot for my Fitness Magazine. I took the pictures outside so the people that want to start a healthy workout routine but do not have a gym membership can relate to the pictures.

We took some pictures next to the lake and trees. When we went out it was sunny, but then it got cloudy, the pictures came out great still. We took a few pictures of us running. We took others where the poses represent power and strength. And finally some where we are stretching.

Shot Plans/ Page Layout Sketches: Contents Page

Shot Plans/ Page Layout Sketches: Contents Page

My page layout will have have the tittle "contents" in big bold and colorful letters, located on the top of the page. The text and subtitle will be separated with lines from the image and the main page number.

For the image, I have two options: A woman running in the park, she would be wearing exercise clothes like a jacket and legging, and her hair would be tied up. The other option is of a woman in a yoga pose, she would wear a tank top and leggings.

CCR Question 4

How did you integrate technologies in this project? In the elaboration of my magazine I used Google Slides and Canva.
